Floral wallpaper - Contemporary or vintage?

A romantic gesture is usually accompanied with flowers, chocolates, or both, especially at this time of the year. But why tell someone you love them on just one day when you can say it with flowers all year round? If your living room is feeling a little lacklustre after the winter, or the bedroom needs boosting with a refresh, floral wallpaper is just the thing to bring a little romance back into your life and a fresh feel to your home.

But is floral wallpaper fashionable? In the Spring/Summer ‘Concerto’ collection from Graham & Brown, floral wallpaper brings a delightfully whimsical and fresh element to interior design. Combining four key themes of Craft Work, Expressing Yourself, Nature, and Nostalgia, the design team have created a range of playful and uplifting wallpapers, murals and perfectly partnered paints.

Iona Graham, Community & Social Manager at Graham & Brown and the fourth generation of the Graham family to play a role in the company, is excited about the new collection. “The Spring/Summer 2025 ‘Concerto’ collection celebrates individuality, empathetic design, and a deep connection to nature. Each piece has been crafted by our talented, in-house design studio, where a team of artists and designers drew inspiration from their 2025 trend predictions and an extraordinary archive of 50,000 pieces. It’s truly special to see these designs come to life!”

Are you ready to take a fresh look at floral wallpaper? Let’s examine how it can be an integral part of your 2025 upscale décor with Graham & Brown.

The type of floral wallpaper you choose will depend a lot on the type of look you’re trying to achieve. In a modern home, you can play around with both contemporary and vintage styles, but a heritage home may be far more suitable for classic botanicals. For a heritage look, chic Chinoiserie is back, with a series of murals that juxtapose natural elements with classical design motifs inspired by the 18th century European movement of Chinese design interpretation.

However, modern wallpaper designers have also embraced floral wallpaper and incorporated their own unique style into a host of new patterns. An ultra-modern interior may provide a better backdrop for a more design-led interpretation of the theme, giving you the chance to include more abstract designs or bolder patterns such as floral wall murals.

The importance of mood boarding

Mood boards are a fabulous way to see how colour, design & texture can perfectly partner with each other, and which tones can highlight key elements within a pattern. The simplest way to pick a great colour combination is to check out our Perfectly Partnered suggestions with each of our floral wallpapers, and then add them to your mood board. You can add pictures of natural elements such as flowers to your mood board to get a better idea of how your colours and patterns will work together.

For example, a delicate pink floral wallpaper partners beautifully with the subtle natural tone of sage green. Then add a bolder burst of colour with textiles that pick up on the red and pink tones, while adding a creamy white or dove grey with warm undertones as your accent paint for skirting, door frames and trims.

Go big, go bold, go for murals

If you love the idea of floral wallpaper but want to do something really special, a wall mural is the perfect way to give any room real impact. By making one area your focal point with a mural, you can then harmonise the rest of the space with complimentary colours that pick up on elements within the mural.

Flowers and stripes and all things nice

If you want to achieve that classic cottage core, the perfect coordination has to be flowers and stripes. The striped element of the design gives your room structure and can also make a room feel larger and more spacious, while the floral element balances the formal aspect of the stripes, giving it a whimsical, relaxed feeling.
If you don’t want to go for striped wallpaper then harmonise your floral wallpaper with striped textiles such as curtains or roller blinds.

Metallics - add some glamour to your interiors

Metallic wallpaper is an ideal match for floral designs. Designs such as our Gilded Leaf collection combine the subtly of botanical motifs with the glamour of metallics. The way that metallic elements catch the light can bring a room to life, making leaf patterns seemingly come alive and adding a unique interplay between light and shadow.

Create an indoor garden

Floral wallpaper is a chance to create a (very low maintenance!) indoor ‘garden’ that surrounds you with soothing images. From the soft interplay of cherry blossom flowers against a dusky pink background to a magical ‘enchanted garden’ mural with layers of interest and pops of sublime colour, floral wallpaper is a chance to fill your world with the tranquillity of nature all day, every day. And if you choose to decorate a room with roses, you’re also creating a beautifully romantic space for those special evenings together.

So is floral wallpaper fashionable in 2025? Absolutely. Combine flowers and stripes and discover the beautifully fresh Spring/Summer 2025 collection of floral wallpaper, murals, curtains and blinds from Graham & Brown now.
